Andrea Kocsis, vice-president of ver.di and head of the federal postal department has said the following regarding the planned extension of working time by Deutsche Post.



"Frank Appel has criticised already many times the current collective agreement for the postal sector. On the 6^th May 2009 he relayed to the employees via the newspaper BILD that he is planning an extension of their working time step by step. He also made a threat of additional job dismissals if there was a refusal of his plans by the Trade Union. Further the management decided to deliver a message in public that they plan to postpone the agreed wage increase of 3% for December because of the financial crisis.



Deutsche Post is not an economic basket case, Andrea Kocsis pointed out in an interview. There is no crisis in the mail business. They are trying to ride in the slipstream of the financial crisis and employees are in for it now. This is shameless!



It is bad enough if companies affected by the crisis use this fact to wrench more from the employees than is necessary. So, the Trade Union ver.di is arguing for compliance with the current collective agreement and against the deterioration of working conditions for the workers.



The collective agreement agreed last year between the Trade Union ver.di and the management of Deutsche Post would remain in force for the 130.000 employees covered. The Trade Union doesn’t give off one millimetre of scope to the planned changes in Deutsche Post.
