Verdi responded today with a day strike in Leipzig to the renewed rejection of collective bargaining by the German Amazon management.

"After the week-long strike around Christmas 2013 we have given Amazon a lot of time to rethink their position regarding collective bargaining with us. They have reiterated their opposition to collective agreements and  we are responding with our own means, "says Verdi negotiator Jörg Lauenroth-Mago. 

"There is no alternative to the collective agreement. If management does not change its view, we will continue the series of strikes from last year. I am confident that we are able to call strikes in Leipzig and at other locations again and again from one-day to multi-day strikes, "said Verdi strike leader Thomas Schneider.

UNI affiliate Ver.di and Amazon employees in Germany have demanded Amazon enter into collective negotiations with the union in order to ensure the same rights and benefits as their co-workers at other retailers in the country.
