European union leaders decided at the inaugural meeting of UNI ICTS last week in Dublin, to send a letter to Deutsche Telekom CEO Rene Obermann, calling on him to ensure that the company's subsidiary in the UK allows its employees to organise.



Since Deutsche Telekom began its operations in the United States in 2000, T-Mobile USA workers have been intimidated, harassed and threatened when they show support for having a union. The U.S. management systematically violates international norms by interfering in employees’ decisions about union membership, and by discouraging union organising.



At home in Germany, and in many European countries, Deutsche Telekom respects union rights and engages in social dialogue. UNI ICTS leaders say the company should do the same throughout its operations worldwide, as it claims to do in its corporate social responsibility policies.



UNI and its affiliates call on the company to demonstrate its commitment to fundamental labour rights by signing a global agreement with UNI.
