UNITE HERE stepped into the New Year with a big win - right before Christmas, the union successfully won union recognition in a unit of more than 1,000 workers at the new Resorts World New York City casino at Aqueduct Racetrack. This is the largest single bargaining unit organized by Local 6 in recent years, and it is a unit that is certain to get larger as time goes by. The casino belongs to Genting, the Malaysia-based global gaming company.



As gaming continues to expand in New York State, recognition through card check at Aqueduct is a very important step in ensuring that New York gaming workers are part of UNITE HERE, North America’s primary gaming Union. They join over 100,000 UNITE HERE gaming sector workers in Las Vegas, Atlantic City and many other locations throughout North America. Achieving recognition at Aqueduct through the multi-Union Hotel Trades Council continues our Union’s coalition work with other Unions in gaming, with UNITE HERE in the lead.



The success of Local 6 in negotiating a card check neutrality agreement for the new casino is one reason that UNITE HERE members at Aqueduct, Belmont, and Saratoga race tracks in New York, formerly represented by other UNITE HERE locals, joined Local 6 earlier this year.
