The new settlement between Boeing and the technical workers will avoid strikes through 2016 that could potentially cripple jetliner production. It will also provide 5 percent annual pay raises, up from 3.5 percent in Boeing’s original offer. But the deal comes at the detriment of the new workers, as it eliminates a pension for new hires leaving them with only a 401(k)- retirement plan.



Technical workers usually earn less than engineers but their engaged workforce, when they strike, could slow or halt production of all Boeing airplanes and complicate the ongoing review process of the 787 Dreamliner by the Federal Aviation Administration.
