UNI warns South Africa over Walmart entry



The competition commission has turned into a toothless tiger in facing the might of walmart.



What else can explain their decision on the walmart /massmart deal.They have given the public interest dimension of the share buy up the most superficial of attention.



The public and business community should be alert to the fact that this is not just any business deal.

Walmart is the worlds largest business.If they were a country they could attend the G20 , such is their wealth.



The power they wield should make all authorities stand up given their troublesome track record from wiping out local competition, choking small enterprises, muscular interventions with suppliers all of which makes a dangerous cocktail made more toxic when laced with their feral anti union policies at their home base.



We look forward to the forthcoming tribunal hearing as this provides a welcome opportunity to speak the truth on the walmart business model and obtain the guarantees that this deal requires on jobs, suppliers and working conditions.



There are good reasons why Walmart have not been granted approval to operate in San Diego, Los Angeles, Seattle, Philadelphia, Chicago, San Francisco, Baltimore and practically all of Boston and the nations capital Washington DC.
