UNI Global Union is supporting striking workers from South African affiliate SACCAWU who demand retailer Dis-Chem negotiate with the union on basic issues such as minimum wage and parental rights.



After nearly two months on strike, the company has still not come to the bargaining table. In a show of solidarity, UNI General Secretary Philip Jennings sent a letter to Dis-Chem Managing Director Ivan Satzman calling on him to talk with the union and settle the dispute fairly.



SACCAWU is the South African Commercial, Catering and Allied Workers Union and represents more than 100,000 workers in the commercial, catering, tourism, hospitality and finance sectors.
