UNI staff team up for solidarity football cup

 UNI global union head office staff formed a team to play in an all day football fundraising tournament for charity. The day was sponsored by UNI in support of South African non-profit organization IMBEWU. It is a collaborative program between South Africa and Switzerland who work through education, sport and cultural exchange to make a difference.

IMBEWU is a non-profit NGO founded in 2001 through the encounter of people from South Africa and Switzerland. Its aim is to initiate or coordinate sustainable participative projects, working with local communities of the Eastern Cape Province to create conditions, which will enable South African youth from disadvantaged communities to envisage a future of equal opportunities and success. The activities of IMBEWU are currently benefiting more than 1000 young South Africans.



A great day was had by the 22 teams in the scenic Valais region of Switzerland. It was a fundraising success and a wonderful event for community spirit. The team, which was made up of UNI staff from US, Denmark, Zambia, Switzerland and Australia, won 3 of 5 games and enjoyed the experience of working in union together. UNI print shop department manager Andreas Sprunger helped to coordinate the day and cheered on team ‘Greece’ from the announcers table. UNI staff and families also made the 1.5hr journey from Geneva to support the day.
