UNI Global Union notes that the owner of the Rana Plaza factory complex along with 41 other people has been charged with murder over the building collapse which claimed more than 1,100 lives in Bangladesh in 2013.

UNI Global Union General Secretary Philip Jennings said, "We can only hope that the victims and their families get justice. The struggle also goes on for them  to receive proper fair compensation. The compensation fund is still 2.3 million USD short of the 30 million USD required to fully compensate the victims. Today, when the Rana Plaza story has taken another twist, would be a good moment for the brands who have not yet paid into the Fund or have paid very little,  to reflect on their responsibility and pay up. As the ILO Conference opens in Geneva this week, it's time too to remind the Bangladesh government of the promises it made to respect workers' rights and building safety standards - because to date it's not happened. "

The chief investigator of what has now become the Rana Plaza murder case said the next hearing would be 28th June.
