UNI-PLC Women’s Committee was re-organized and a new set of officers were elected last 26 May, 2008. For the past five months, these are the activities we are undertaking and activities we would like to undertake in the future.
We are undertaking a social project in support of the “Prosthetics and Orthotics services’ a project of the Philippine General Hospital. The said project is about soliciting 1) old /used stockings 2) old shoes and 3) old shorts for use of prosthetics and orthotics. We had been to the Philippine General hospital for twice to donate our solicitation of old stockings, old shoes and old shorts. We also visit the patients in the wards and gave them hope and consolation. They were happy to see us because the person- in- charge introduce us as donors from PLC Women Committee. We also felt a sense of joy and fulfillment that we were able to help the patients. We took pictures with the patients and promise we will exert more effort to help them in the future. This is the continuation project of the PLC Women and our next trip to the Hospital will be in the last week of November.
We also support the project of Tahanan Outreach Projects and Services, Inc. TOPS,INC.) TOPS is a pioneer organization in the country dedicated to the specific task of assisting street children, runaways, minor offenders endangered and disadvantaged youth so that they can be reintegrated into the normal flow of life within their respective communities. PLC Women donated school supplies to the children to aid them in their education. We also undertake “Food Program” in which food was distributed to the children. This is also a continuation project of PLC Women. We have to find ways and means to continue this project.
Our next activity is to conduct seminars for PLC Women. We want to put in practice, what we have learned from our “Training skills and Organizing course” in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. Since we have no budget to make use of our training skills, we are seeking financial assistance from UNI-APRO. I have submitted to our Women Director sister Alice our session plan, draft program, budget of one day seminar and soft copy of our awareness campaign seminar. Our awareness campaign will be about “Awareness of Sexual Harassment Law “, Awareness of Anti-Trafficking in Persons”, and “Awareness of Cervical Cancer and the Pap smear”. We hope and pray that our seminar proposal will be heard and answered by UNI-APRO. This is Our DREAM.
PLC-Women officers also take time to attend cooking demonstrations by “Nestle” and we were able to learn some economical cooking tips. Back in our plant levels, we disseminate the cooking tips that we have learned in order to help our women members not only in their budgeting but also to earn extra income.
These are the present activities that we are undertaking but in the very near future, the Women committee will be joining hands with the Youth committee in some activities like “Feed the children program”.
In conclusion, I would like to say that I am very proud and happy to be working with the new set of PLC-Women officers because we are very organized, one hard working and committed team. It is our service to our community especially to our Women members, in making their little world a better place to live.
