UNI Graphical with the support of the Swedish Union GS, organized a 2 day seminar on Multi National companies in the Asia and Pacific regions.

Attending the seminar were 30 delegates from Thailand, Malaysia, India, Indonesia and Australia.

The President of the Pulp, Paper Labour Federation of Thailand, Amnuay Iemraska opened the seminar and said how important it was for such a seminar to be held in the Asia and Pacific Region

The strengthening of union networks across these multi national companies was identified as a key issue particularly with the way in which MNCs now are able to move capital and production from one country to another.

With UNI Graphical now having global networks established across many multi nationals including, Kimberly Clark, G & D, Nampak and Elanders the seminar concentrated on what tools are needed to continue to expand these networks.

Workers in all countries should have the right to join a union and have a collective agreement free from the fear of intimidation and harassment, unfortunately many companies who maintain they have “codes of conduct” and first class employment practices do not practice what they preach.

The seminar strongly supported the ongoing emphasis on organizing and campaigning and the building of global union alliances and networks.

Participants identified multi national companies in their respective countries for further recruiting and organizing and committed to a timetable for reporting back to UNI Graphical on the progress they have made.
