In a strongly worded letter, UNI Finance and UNI Global Union have asked Barclays for a meeting to discuss the bank’s plans for Africa.

Barclays’ have announced the restructuring of Its operations in Africa and the scaling back of its current 62 percent majority stake in Barclays Africa Group to a non-controlling, non-consolidated position. 

In the letter to Barclays’ CEO, Jes Statey, jointly signed by UNI Global Union’s General Secretary Philip Jennings and UNI Finance Head, Marcio Monzane, UNI called for a meeting with Barclays to discuss “the deep concerns voiced by UNI’s Africa affiliates.” 

UNI Africa’s Management Committee, which is meeting in Ghana this week, is also addressing the Bank’s decision that may have serious repercussions for the 45.000 Barclays’ employees in Africa.
