UNI europa has long called for the revision of the current directive on the Posting of Workers, which it sees as necessary to inject clarification into the debate and to go some way to reversing the harmful impact of the ECJ's decisions during the Viking, Rüffert, Luxemburg and Laval cases. UNI europa joins with trade unions all across Europe to fight for the retention initial spirit of the directive by preventing social dumping and ensuring the highest working conditions and pay are applicable to workers posted across the member states.

UNI europa therefore welcomes Mr Barroso's committment to further regulation on the implementation of the directive and urges the Commission to fully involve the social partners at all levels of the current and ongoing analysis of the directive. UNI europa also would like to see a fuller and extended role of the European Parliament in the implementation of the directive.



Barroso's statement is seen by some as a way of gaining support amongst Socialist MEPs and Trade Unions across Europe. It is now important that Barroso fullfils his promises in the Commission's next mandate by pushing for a more social agenda for Europe.
