UNI Europa Telecom has organised a workshop on the European Union’s current telecom legislation. The meeting took place in Luxemburg on the first of October.



The aim of the workshop was the information of UNI's affiliates on the state of play of the so-called EU telecom package that will have a huge impact on the future of the whole European telecoms industry and its employees. Key issues of the debate were the question of functional separation, future investments in NGN and the universal service obligations with regard to broadband/high speed internet access.



Following a keynote address by Bernardo Herman from ETNO (the employers’ federation representing the network operators) participants engaged in a fruitful exchange of views reiterating UNI’s concerns about the legislation and underlining the need for active lobbying of decision makers on both national and European level.
