The UNI Europa Post & Logistics Conference opened on the 25th of September 2013 in Évora, Portugal. In the next three days, more than 200 postal Trade Unionists from different 21 European countries will discuss the consequences of the European economic crisis, its impact on postal workers and the future of the postal and logistic industries in Europe.
In the opening ceremony, Pascal Clivaz, Deputy Director General of the Universal Postal Union, thanked UNI Post & Logistics for the good cooperation in the last years and underlined the importance of UNI as the international representative of postal Trade Unions being part of discussions with postal employers and governments on the international and European levels to design the future together in a strong and open dialogue.
UNI Europa Post & Logistics was delighted to welcome the General Secretaries of the two Portuguese Trade Union Confederations, Arméno Carlos from CGTP-IN and Carlos Silva from UGT-P who emphasised the difficult situation in Portugal and the fight of the Portuguese workers for a better future. Both joined a Trade Union action with the participants of the conference in the city center of Évora to support the struggle of the Portuguese postal trade unions against the privatisation of the Portuguese post CTT.
In many interventions, speeches and presentations, the participants of the conference supported by scientific analysis exchanged their experiences with the crisis and technical changes and discussed the importance of a strong regulated postal market and string collective agreements. This can only be achieved when postal trade unions all over Europe remain strong and well organised in the whole postal sector and work together in solidarity.
