UNI Europa Hair & Beauty and EU Coiffure, the European trade union federation and employers’ organisation in the field of hairdressing, their national members from Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain as well as dermatologists from across Europe met on the 25^th and 26^th of April in Madrid within the framework of the EU funded project “Occupational health and safety in the hairdressing sector – implementing the European Framework agreement”. The workshop addressed the most important challenges faced by the hairdressing sector in terms of health and safety risks and training. This meeting also enabled participants to exchange information, share experiences and discuss strategies on how to reinforce and promote the social dialogue in the sector at national and at European level.



The two days’ workshop was concluded with the adoption of a joint declaration in to which participants commit to fully implement the European framework agreement concluded by UNI Europa Hair & Beauty and Coiffure EU in April 2012. The declaration also calls upon participants to engage in effective and efficient social dialogue at national and European level, with the aim to further strengthen professional development in the hairdressing sector in Europe and thus also health and safety in the sector. Finally all participants commit to call upon their national governments to support any initiative of the EU institutions on an EU directive based on the European framework agreement.
