Just as trade unions act as a counter organisation to Employer groups on Industrial Relations matters, Finance Watch will assume this role on financial matters on behalf of non-industry organisations. UNI Europa has chosen to become a founding member, along with 12 other trade union organisations, in order to ensure the voices of finance workers are at the forefront of debates on financial reform.



Finance Watch is a non-governmental organisation based in Brussels, which will develop alternative solutions to the organisation of financial activities and the regulation of these activities carried out in financial markets by the major operators, banks, hedge funds or insurance companies for example. It's objective is “to end the imbalance between the force of the financial industry and the absence of lobbying from civil society (NGOs, trade unions, academic researchers, think-tanks...) in the financial field, which is a democratic problem.” As stated on the organisation's website, for more information including the list of members and objectives of Finance Watch, please go to www.callforfinancewatch.org

The first General meeting for Finance Watch members will be held in Brussels on 30 June 2011. There is currently a call for the Secretary General and Board of directors positions. Elections for these positions will form part of the Agenda of the General Meeting. UNI Europa will be attending this meeting on behalf of its worker members.
