UNI Global Union is proud to support sisters Léa and Ellen Sprunger – daughters of Andreas Sprunger, Head of UNI Print & Services - who have qualified for London 2012 and are about to fulfil their Olympic dream.
After setting a new national record (43’’51) in the 4 x 100 meters relay at the Helsinki European Championship recently, the two sportswomen and their team have qualified for the Olympic Games in London. Thanks to this performance, Switzerland is now back in the top sixteen nations worldwide!
The success of Léa, 22, and Ellen, 25, does not stop there. Léa also qualified for the 200 meters, with the third best time in Swiss history (23’’08) and Ellen for the heptathlon!
Both girls began athletics aged 10 at their home town sports club in Gingins. They then entered COVA and started doing sports studies. By qualifying for the Olympics they have fulfilled a goal they set 4 years ago.
Philip Jennings, General Secretary, and Christy Hoffman, Deputy Secretary, showed their support for the girls by joining them at a special reception held in Nyon. Philip and Christy had their photo taken with the girls along with heir biggest supporter: their father Andreas Sprunger who has been a part of the UNI Global Union team for 16 years, “ Of course, we are very touched by UNI’s interest and support”, said Andreas.
"We are absolutely delighted that Ellen and Léa have made the Swiss Olympic team. They are part of the UNI family and we have been following their progress for years. We are well aware of the sacrifices they have made to get to the absolute pinnacle of their sport. We know how rightfully proud our colleague Andreas is of his talented and dedicated girls. We at UNI are all behind them as they prepare to head to the London 2012 games." said Philip.
