After HomePlus Korea management refused to make any effort to find a solution to the wage problem in HomePlus stores in Korea, Head of UNI Commerce, Alke Boessiger, wrote to the CEO, Mr. Doe Seong-Hwan to demand an improvement of the situation.

HomePlus workers receive less than W 1,000,00 per month - even if the worker has been employed for ten years. Average Korean workers in the public services sector receive a living wage of W 1,480,000 per month. Furthermore, HomePlus directors receive over W 100,000,000 annually, and still refuse to even provide the union with a counter offer on their wage claims.

Alke Boessiger said, “The situation of directors being rewarded very handsomely while average employees are not even afforded a living wage is unacceptable.”

“We fully support our brothers and sisters in the HomePlus labour union and their decision to take industrial action. We urge HomePlus management to reconsider the unfair situation it has created and to change the company’s wage structure, offering HomePlus store workers an appropriate living wage.”
