In the letter Jennings said, “Today, Walmart Workers and members of the UNI Walmart Global Union Alliance around the world are taking action to call on Walmart to respect the fundamental labour rights set out in the ILO Core Conventions and join the ranks of responsible employers in the retail sector who have taken this step to ensure decent labour rights and standards for their workers.”



He continued, “This will ensure that Walmart employees all over the globe have a fair opportunity to fully exercise their rights to freedom of association and collective bargaining. It will also align Walmart with the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. These principles place an obligation on employers to respect human rights and identify and prevent any adverse impact of their business on human rights.”
