UNI Apro will be joining Public Service International Asia Pacific at a workshop in Seoul, Korea to deliberate on the campaign calling for International Solidarity Levy and Financial Transaction Tax (FTT) in the Asia Pacific region. The workshop will be held ahead of the Presidential Elections later this year.





UNI Apro has been keenly observing the beginning of discussions on FTT in Europe since the advent of the global financial crisis in 2009. In 2011, the European Commission released a draft directive on the introduction of FTT and how FTT would roll out in the Europa region. This draft could spark an interest in FTT in the Asia Pacific region and bring about much needed innovative sources of funding to the attaining of the MDGs.



“Innovative Finance for Development schemes are already being implemented in some countries such as the air ticket solidarity levy in South Korea, France, Brazil, Chile, Jordan and Niger. Certainly, more can be done. An international solidarity levy is a move towards introducing sound economic policy, re-structuring for a sustainable financial system, and in turn means sustainable jobs with fair remuneration in the finance industry,” said Christopher Ng, UNI Apro Regional Secretary.
