On 1 February 2017, Bro. Mohamed Shafie BP Mammal, the President of UNI MLC, Vice President of UNI Apro and the Secretary-General of ASETUC, was conferred the Panglima Mahkota Wilayah which carries the title of "Datuk" by His Majesty the King of Malaysia, Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong XV Sultan Muhammad V.

The award, also known as the “Most Distinguished Order of the Territorial Crown”, is given once a year to recognise and acknowledge the contribution of distinguished service in various fields.

This award was conferred in recognition of Bro. Shafie’s leadership role in Malaysia’s labour movement in growing a partnership culture which breaks through the traditional barriers between management and unions. This partnership industrial relations model creates a common purpose and vision between both unions and management in many companies which is conducive to growth and shared prosperity.

Regional Secretary, Bro. Christopher Ng, congratulated Bro. Shafie for receiving the title that recognises his committed contributions to protect and promote the rights and interests of workers in Malaysia and ASEAN.
