UNI Americas Executive Committee at its 18th meeting, held in Montevideo, Uruguay, approved the declaration of support and solidarity with our brother Orhan Akman, expelled from the Republic of Peru on March 31st for "disturbing public order, tranquillity and social peace" for participating in a peaceful sit-in with Cencosud workers.

The Committee expressed its fervent opposition to the Peruvian government's decision without evidence to expel and prohibit him from re-entering the country, declaring this as a violation of  individual and collective rights.

UNI Americas will continue demanding the immediate intervention of the Peruvian government to ensure that democratic freedoms and human rights prevail in that country, and that our brother Orhan Akman's filed is fully cleared.
