UNI Americas, a regional organization of UNI Global Union, which represents more than 20 million members worldwide, joins the voices of governments and social organizations in the region in condemning the military coup carried out in Honduras on June 28, against President Manuel Zelaya. We urge the restoration of constitutional order, reinstating the legitimately elected President. We also call upon the military coup to respect the physical integrity of all those who disagree with the actions that led to the overthrow or President Zelaya. Particularly, we demand full stop to all measures against trade union and popular leaders, journalists and all those who in one way or another have opposed the coup.

UNI americas appeals to the international community, especially the organized trade union movement to denounce the coup and provide all necessary support and solidarity at this moment to the legitimate authorities of Honduras in order to return to the rule of law.
