The East African Trade Union Congress (EATUC) 2^nd ordinary summit took place from 24 to 25 July 2012 in Arusha, Tanzania.



UNI Africa was represented by Brother Jonathan Peles, TUICO, Tanzania, Member of UNI Africa Executive Committee and also President of UNI Africa Commerce.



The Summit reviewed the last five years progress report since EATUC was formed, discussed Trade Union Development in the region focusing on the following : National Organisation of Trade Unions (NOTU) and Central Organisation of Free Trade Unions (COFTU) relationship, Southern Sudan Trade Union development , affiliation of Sudanese Workers’ Trade Union Federation (SSWTUF) and application of Somali Congress of Trade Unions as observer.



The Summit further adopted a five year EATUC strategic planning and EATUC constitution amendments. Brother Francis Atwoli, General Secretary of Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Kenya was elected as Chairperson for the next term of office.



Issues around future collaboration with cooperating partners and GUFs were discussed together including the memorandum of understanding between EATUC and International Labour Organisation (ILO).



UNI Africa welcomes the initiative taken by the EATUC associate at the summit. This proof enough the recognition of UNI Africa as sub-regional organization and responds to the implementation of our action plan, including strategic objective for recognition of UNI Africa by regional organizations
