Lima. The 3rd Technical Meeting of the Union Self-Reform Working Group (GTAS) was carried out with the support of the Trade Union Confederation of the Americas (TUCA) in the City of Lima on October 28th and 29th, 2010, with the aim of exchanging experiences on the advances and difficulties of self-reform processes and the perspective assessment of strategic priorities stated during the GTAS II and approved by the TUCA Executive Committee. This meeting was developed at the premises of the ILO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, and was opened by Jean Maninat, Regional Director, who shared the opening panel with Victor Baez, General Secretary of the TUCA and Carmen Benítez, ILO, ACTRAV. During the two journeys, the recent changes in union structure and union density in the region were examined; national and sectoral experiences on self-reform, including the experience of informal economy workers and anti-union regulations were analysed, and the response of organised workers in various national contexts. At the same time, during the sessions, it was possible to obtain information of ILO-ACTRAV approach on collective bargaining, and the result of the external evaluation on the project of Latin American Union Reinforcement (FSL), implemented during the last four years with the participation of union centrals of 10 different countries affiliated to the Trade Union Confederation of the Americas and the support of Global Union Federations (GUFs). The project was achieved as a result of the cooperation of the Spanish Government, through its Ministry of Labour and Immigration, and the enthusiastic collaboration and support of UGT and CC.OO union centrals. The 3rd Technical Meeting of the Union Self-Reform Working Group (GTAS) was closed with the analysis of perspectives towards a second stage of the Project of Union Reinforcement in Latin America.
