Pontiac, Illinois, Employees Allege Harrassment Chicago, Illinois Massive violations of workers and trade union rights by management of US publishing giant R.R. Donnelley were in the focus of discussion that took place today in Teamsters City, Chicago. Delegates of the second UNI Global Network Conference of Donnelley Trade Unions which will start tomorrow, May 15th, learned from their US brothers and sisters stories of anti-union behavior of the company management. They expressed full solidarity with struggle of employees of the Pontiac, Illinois printing facility and Graphic Communications Conference of the Teamsters Union (GCC) who run the campaign for organizing and collective bargaining. ![]() A complaint has been issued by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) against R.R. Donnelly by the Graphic Communications Conference of the Teamsters Union (GCC) on behalf of the employees of the Pontiac. In its today’s press statement Graphic Communications Conference of the Teamsters Union (GCC) underlines: “The union charges that R.R. Donnelly managers surveilled its employees’ union activities, threatened to close the plant if employees joined the union, threatened to retaliate against an employee if he continued to support the union and engaged in other unlawful acts. “These workers want to improve their wages and gain some real job security through membership in the Graphic Communications Conference of the Teamsters Union,” said George Tedeschi, President of the GCC and Teamsters Vice President. “We already represent employees of other R.R. Donnelly facilities and word has spread about workplace improvement due to union membership. It’s amazing that the company’s own managers are treating their employees with such hostility.” “We look forward to presenting our case before the NLRB,” Tedeschi said. “The law is on our side when it comes to the rights of employees to form a union in their workplace.” For the full text of the Graphic Communications Conference of the Teamsters Union (GCC) press statement please go to: http://www.teamster.org/08news/nr_080514_3.asp ![]() For more information, please contact: Adriana Rosenzvaig, Head of UNI Graphical: adriana.rosenzvaig@uniglobalunion.org |
