Dear Colleague,
Trade Union Statement to G8 Heiligendamm Summit
Trade Union Statement to G8 Dresden Labour Ministers’ Meeting
Further to my circular of 10 April [TUAC 12(2007)], please find attached the revised versions of the trade union statements to:
These have been revised in the light of comments received from affiliates and the ITUC. The introductory message of both statements is similar but the Dresden statement goes into more detail on the issues on the Labour Ministers’ agenda:- employment, social protection and corporate social responsibility whereas the Heiligendamm statement covers the wider range of issues on the Heads of State agenda:- growth and responsibility in the world economy and African development.
The DGB is organising a series of events in the run-up to the Summit in Germany. The statement to Labour Ministers will be presented to the Ministers by a trade union delegation at the meeting in Dresden on 6-7 May. The Heiligendamm Summit statement will be presented to the Host of the Summit, Chancellor Angela Merkel, by a trade union delegation at a meeting organised by the DGB on 7 May in Berlin.
Affiliates from the G8 countries are also requested to communicate the Heiligendamm statement to their Heads of Government attending the Summit and to inform us of the outcome of this.
The results of the meeting will be reported to the TUAC Plenary Session in Paris on 14 May and be taken account of in the TUAC Consultations with the OECD Ministerial Council the same day. The revised TUAC statement to the OECD Ministers, which repeats some of the points of the Heiligendamm statement, will be sent to you very shortly.
Yours sincerely, John Evans
