Conclusions published by the council after their meeting on 11th March 2009 make no reference to the recently released report from the de Larosière group on financial supervision; "We hope this is not the sign of internal disagreement on the necessary follow up" noted UNI europa regional secretary Bernadette Ségol.



Positive however is the fact that discussions centered on drawing up an international black list for tax havens, despite strong hesitations from Austria, and Luxembourg. UNI europa welcomes this trend and hopes that this will be carried to the G20 summit in London in April.



The ministers decided to give to Ireland, Greece, Spain, France, Malta and Latvia deadlines for getting their budgets to normal. This will be done April.



But how can those countries cope with unemployment if public deficits is the core problem? Are Ministers caring if workers have to pay for a crisis. This is UNI europa pressing question to the EU and to finance ministers....



On financing climate change, the ministers said the EU was ready to pay its fair share but that to reach a deal at UN climate talks in Copenhagen this December, all emitters, bar the least developed countries and small island states, must also contribute.
