In January G4S agreed with union leaders to fix workers problems by April 30th. Here’s what they agreed to do and what they did/did not do:



x ANOTHER DELAY - Meet with Chief Labour Commissioner (CLC) about PF and minimum wage bifurcation

x Meet with CLC about overtime rates at double time

x Provided all workers with Letters of Appointment

x Return uniform deposits to all staff and stop taking deposits

x Establish grievance redressal committees state & branch-wise

x Provide workers with their PF balance sheets as per the law

x Make agreements with local unions about shift length and overtime work

x Return education certificates to workers



Workers want G4S to honour their agreement in full and fix the problems that union members have raised in good faith. Instead G4S has not responded to union requests to meet and discuss problems further. Although the process with the Chief Labour Commissioner is delayed (but will be rescheduled) to discuss the issue of bifurcation of the minimum wage and PF contributions, management have not done anything else they committed to do by 30th April 2008.



Action plan

Union leaders met in May to discuss what action is needed to get G4S to honour their commitments and address workers problems. This will include taking our issues to G4S Clients who are the workers’ Principal Employers. G4S Clients include:



* Axis Bank

* Indian Premier League Cricket

* HSBC

* Foreign Embassies
