Since TESCO became a multinational company TESCO has developed a habit for strained relations with local unions in sharp contrast to its good relations with UNI commerce affiliate USDAW which organises the workers in British retail. For more than 3 years UNI global union has worked together with its affiliates to change TESCO’s misconception of trade unions and its reluctant disposition to allow its workers to organise contravening the company's own policies on the issue.



TESCO as so many other multinational employers claim that allowing its staff to be organised will make the business unprofitable but as TESCO demonstrated it is easily capable of securing huge profits even in an environment as difficult as a global recession and therefore it also would be able to afford its workers to organise around the globe.
