The Telecommunications Organization of the Americas (Organizacion Internacional de Telecomunicaciones de las Americas – OITA) was formed on March 20 in Uruguay. Representatives from state-owned operators in eight countries, namely Argentina (Arsat), Bolivia (Entel), Brazil (Telebras), Cuba (Etecsa), Ecuador (CNT), Paraguay (Copaco), Venezuela (CANTV) and Uruguay (Antel) signed the founding act. With the agreement, the companies seek to exchange managerial and technical expertise and interconnect their networks in order to better compete against companies in the private sector. The signatory partners also plan to cooperate on regulatory and commercial matters.
