Reports from T-Mobile's troubled operations in the United Kingdom are leading to calls for urgent action by the parent company, Deutsche Telekom.



DT's main shareholders - the German government (32% shareholding) and the private equity group Blackstone (4.5%) - want a quick decision from the company about whether to sell the UK operations or to merge with another company in the market.



T-Mobile is only the 4th-largest player in the UK and its recent poor results announcement are threatening DT's profits. This comes at a time when DT's US business is also suffering. By contrast, neither the German government nor Blackstone are suggesting that DT exit the US market.



T-Mobile employs around 7,500 workers in the UK, who are represented by Connect and CWU.
