At a special conference of the Swiss Communications Union, Syndicom, postal workers have agreed to a negotiated salary increase of 2.8%. This consists of 1% salary increase granted to all employees, 0.8% of payroll will be devoted to individual increases, and finally, the Post will pay the entire employee's contribution to the improvement of the Post Office Pension Fund, of 1% of salary.



The wage negotiations have been conducted this year in parallel to negotiations on a broad package of measures to maintain security of employment for all staff in the event of future restructuring. The package was also approved unanimously. Since the first proper collective bargaining agreement in Swiss Post in 2002, more than 20 social plans have been negotiated, all different from each other. The social framework approved by the conference has brought at last equal treatment for all postal workers in case of future restructuring. The measures include the following: support for job search in-house or external special financial assistance for professional job search, part-time work made available for people from 58 years of age, and the opportunity to take early retirement from 62. This new social plan is unique in Switzerland and will automatically apply even if one person is actually affected by restructuring. The plan will apply to all restructuring except that additional negotiations will be implemented only if more than 450 employees and 250 full-time positions are involved.
