More than 1200 postal workers from the Swiss Post Office mail delivery section demonstrated in Bern to protest against the implementation of the project Distrinova. This project would result in the loss of thousands of jobs and a decrease in the quality of mail distribution so being harmful to users, with the sole objective of maximizing the profits of the Post.
The message of the workers was strong and solid in support of the Swiss Communications Union position. The union said that for a company already making each year nearly one billion of profit, such a policy is unacceptable. It also contravenes the role that should be played by public enterprises in the labor market. That the Post is preparing to cut thousands of jobs as the country strives to emerge from a severe economic crisis is an intolerable idea.
The more than 1,200 letter carriers gathered Saturday in Bern today, unanimoiusly signed a resolution asking management to stop the proposals:
The workers called for;
· Swiss Post must stop the draft Distrinova project as long as there is a guarantee that the contract will not involve any dismissals.
· The workers and the union demand that Swiss Post opens negotiations on ways to achieve this guarantee (reductions in working hours, patterns of solidarity, sharing of time working models of early retirement, etc.) .. These procedures should be complementary to the overall social plan negotiated recently.
· Swiss Post must continue in the future to offer full time jobs in mail distribution.
· Swiss Post must put an immediate end to the ongoing downgrading of working conditions in mail distribution and to bring these conditions to a decent and acceptable level.
· Swiss Post must continue to offer all and all users of a public postal service quality, putting on the same level of consideration private clients and commercial clients.
Syndicom will also launch a petition that will allow a wide audience to express its support to workers whose jobs are jeopardized by the project Distrinova
