Swiss union campaigns against Post Office closures

The Swiss Communications union, Syndicom, launched its grassroots campaign against the closure of post offices Caravans plied the roads today in the country: the Union of Communication caravans went , from village to village, district by district, mobilizing the population against the plan of dismantling the postal network announced by the Post Office. A petition has been launched, including on the Internet. For the Union of Communication, there is no question of accepting without comment the plan to close 500 post offices by the Post Office announced in January. Because such a decommissioning plan for the post office is a betrayal of its public service mission and mandate. The union is demanding that the Post Office serve all categories of the population in all regions and at reasonable distance, the full range of postal services is what the population requires of the Post Office. But by removing 500 post offices (20% of the network!) Without adequately replace the Post Office will no longer fulfill this mission. Post belongs to the people, so the people must call the management of the Post Office to order! From today until 20 March and the end of May, the Union of Communication will crisscross the country stopping in hundreds of locations where the post office is under threat of closure to raise awareness . Including gathering signatures for a large national petition entitled "NO to a dismantling of the postal network" A petition that it is also possible to sign online at www.reseaupostal.ch (respectively www.poststellennetz.ch , www.retepostale.ch). The Union expects to rely on tens of thousands of signatures to require the leadership of the Post Office to abandon its plan for decommissioning. Different interest groups, consumer associations through regional groupings, as well as cantonal and federal parliamentarians will also be invited to position themselves in relation to the will of the Post Office to close the 500 post offices. These 500 offices, it must be remembered, are in addition to offices in 1500 already deleted the last ten years. |
