The recent activity report by the Swiss postal regulatory authority, PostReg, shows that the initiatives taken by UNI’s Swiss postal affiliate, syndicom, have really paid off. Syndicom took a petition to the Swiss parliament and the result is that the regulatory authority has set a top priority of guaranteeing the universal postal service including measures to secure the working conditions which are customary in the sector and to regulate against wage dumping by private operators. The pressure exerted by the initiative in the parliament by Syndicom has already had a positive impact: Syndicom sought innovative solutions to improve the network of post offices and as a result access to universal postal service is now anchored in the Postal Act
