UNI Global Union's UNICARE and ICTS sectors send solidarity and strength to Irish Communications Workers' Union emergency call centre members currently taking a stand for better treatment in Ireland, and to health union SIPTU which represents the national ambulance service workers the emergency service (999) workers contact. SIPTU is out on the picket lines to show support.

Emergency call workers take some of the most difficult, harrowing, and high pressure calls day in day out and do their utmost to ensure emergency support is allocated to where it is needed.

The emergency call service (999) in Ireland was outsourced a number of years ago. The outsourced workers who work for British Telecom/Conduit work in three private call centres in Navan, Dublin and Donegal survive on very low wages despite the incredibly challenging and stressful work they do.

UNI Global Union supports these workers in their campaign for a living wage, decent treatment and union recognition.
