Sunrise acquires Tele2 Switzerland

Media release Sunrise
Sunrise acquires the telecommunications provider Tele2 Switzerland and thereby ensures continued service to 491'000 customers. Tele2 will continue as an independent trade mark and the current staff is retained. The acquisition is now awaiting approval by the Swiss competition authority.
Sunrise takes over Tele2 Switzerland. With this acquisition the telecommunications provider enlarges its fixed customer base and strengthens its position as number two in the Swiss market. The takeover has been submitted to the competition authority (Wettbewerbskommission Weko), which will examine the acquisition.
By quickly implementing the takeover of Tele2, Sunrise ensures that Tele2 customers can continue to use all their current products and services without limitations. Full customer support will continue to be provided. The same applies for mobile phone customers, as Tele2 has already been using the Sunrise mobile network through a national roaming agreement to provide nationwide mobile coverage.
Tele2 will continue to be used as a separate trade mark. Tele2 customers will be able to switch to attractive Sunrise services and bundled offerings at any time. Sunrise’s telecommunication services provide an unparalleled price-performance ratio, especially in the regions where the “last mile” has already been unbundled.
In accordance with the Sunrise staff committee and the Gewerkschaft Kommunikation (communications trade union) Sunrise will continue to employ the 53 Tele2 staff at their current location or within Sunrise for the time being. Confidentiality regarding further details on the transaction has been agreed.
According to Tele2 headquarters in Sweden, the sale was motivated mainly by the political environment in Switzerland, which favours the ex-monopolist like in no other European country: endless legal procedures and unrealistic methods for the appraisal of the historic network inhibit a dynamic competitive environment to the benefit of the customers.
