Following further talks between Manx Telecom and the Communications Workers Union, Manx Telecom workers have voted to suspend their proposed day of strike action which was due to take place on Friday 22nd August.  A planned overtime ban has also been called off.

 

The move comes after successful talks between the CWU and Manx Telecom, during which a new pay and conditions proposal was negotiated.  CWU members will be balloted on the new proposals next Thursday, 28th August.  

 

Commenting for Manx Telecom, Managing Director, Chris Hall, said, “We are pleased that a new proposal is on the table, and hope that CWU members will agree to what we believe is a fair offer in all the circumstances.  Coming to a negotiated settlement has got to be the right thing to do for everyone concerned”.

Commenting for the CWU, Deputy General Secretary, Andy Kerr, said: “We welcome the company’s approach to achieving a negotiated settlement. Re-opening the talks is a significant positive step.  Strike action is always a last resort and we are pleased that it has been averted in this case.”
