The National Union of Newspaper Workers (NUNW) in Malaysia has signed a Collective Agreement with Star Publications (M) Bhd on August 16, 2010. The General Secretary of the NUNW R Chandrasekaran reported that the highlights of the agreement were: 1. 13% salary adjustment across the board for all members including members in the maximum salary and PTH (personal-to-holder). 2. Annual increment rate increased by RM5.00 all round - minimum is RM50.00 and the maximum is RM125.00. 3. Minimum salary range is RM900.00 and the maximum salary range is 13%. That means Members salary starts at RM900.00 at the lowest category and the maximum salary of the highest category is RM4340.00 4. Maternity leave increased from 60 days to 75 days birth of 1st child . This is going to further discussed at the JCC meeting hopefully we can achieve the 90 days. The Company has agreed to discuss at the JCC meeting on retirement age currently 56 years to 58 to 60 years as per union's proposal, Cost Of Living Allowance (COLA), paternity leave, annual increment for those members who are in the max/PTH for the year 2012 and etc. When all monetary component elements are taken into account such as increases in night allowance, meal allowance, annual increment and others the increase is not just 13% but between 20% to 25% At the signing of the Collective Agreement the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Datin Linda Ngaim called on the staff to recognise the challenges which are facing the newspaper industry. She said that many companies had become successful due to the capability of their human capital. R Chandrasekaran said in response that the agreement recognised the value of the staff and he also thanked the senior management for the co-operation with the Union during the CA negotiations. |
