UNI affiliates in South Africa have formed a Liaison Council and a Local Organising Committee (LOC) that are laying the ground work for the successful hosting of the UNI World Congress in 2014, a year that coincides with the 20^th anniversary of the birth of democracy in South Africa.

UNI Africa Campaigns and Organising Director Keith Jacobs informed the 11^th Executive Committee that met in Cairo 10 – 11 March that the LOC would formally accept the baton to host the 4^th UNI World Congress during the closing ceremony of the Nagasaki Congress on 12 November.

As part of the closing ceremony in Nagasaki, the LOC would showcase a welcome to South Africa DVD, perform a live musical dance involving all delegates from Africa, and present a gift and a delegate-boosting DVD to delegates.

Farieda Mayet, a member of the LOC, presented a special t-shirt that would be worn by all delegates from Africa during this 30-minute presentation.

The LOC is actively seeking sponsorships for the various promotional materials for the Nagasaki Congress.

The South African affiliates represented in the LOC are CWU, CEPPWAWU, SACCAWU, SASBO and SATAWU.
