Press Release
Union recognition, termination of the strike action and the immediate withdrawal of the lock-out
The struggle for the respect of the South African Supreme law, the constitution of the Republicof South Africa, Act 108 of 1996 and the Labour laws of the country has yielded positive outcome. Finally, CWU has been correctly recognized by Vodacom South Africa(Pty) Ltd and Vodacom Service Provider Company (Pty) Ltd. We applaud the removal of the Performance Measures and bonuses to Executives based on the limitation of the unionisation of the workforce.
This, therefore, means that the first and the longest strike action against the biggest mobile operator, Vodacom SA (Pty) and Vodacom Service Provider Company (Pty) Ltd is formally called off. All CWU members at Vodacom are expected to report to work not later the 7th August. The lock out is being withdrawn with immediate effect.
We also forward our sincere gratitude to all progressive forces that stood against the neo imperialist agenda and the intransigent management in defence of the primary motive force, the working class. The struggle for the promotion of the principle of collectivism against the promotion of the principle of alienation and individualism will be felt by all the incumbents in the mobile subsector. As the COSATU affiliate we will pursue the 2015 campaign without fear or favour. All endeavors to bridge the digital divide must also results into the creation of descent and sustainable jobs, while respecting the laws of the country.
Finally, CWU will intensify the call for the representation of workers in all key structures of the company, that also include Pension Funds and Board of Directors (not limited too). All employers (in the ICT industry) must know that the formation of any pseudo consultative structures will be exposed and crushed by the discipline organised labour.
