UNI Finance Solidarity Statement on Danske Bank



Danske Bank’s Republic of Ireland branch, National Irish Bank, took a unilateral decision to close the staff's Defined Benefit pension scheme before the completion of mediated negotiations with the employees’ representatives, IBOA The Finance Union, and offered employees a once-off 5% bonus to forego future benefits. These acts are driven by the disastrous consequences of the reckless lending policies pursued by the Bank’s senior management.

The actions of the management of National Irish Bank are clearly in defiance of the agreements between Danske Bank and IBOA and in conflict with the Global Agreement between Danske Bank and UNI Global Union.

Accordingly, UNI Global Union calls upon Danske Bank to suspend the closure of the Defined Benefit pension scheme and to re-engage with IBOA The Finance Union to achieve a balanced settlement which addresses the funding deficit in the pension scheme while at the same time preserving future benefits for employees as far as possible.
