In Colombia workers at the Smurfit Kappa plants in Medellin, Barranquilla, Cali and Bogota have walked out in support of the union leader Arturo Cajamarca, who has had his trade union immunity removed by the company as a prelude to his dismissal.

In England workers at Smurfit Kappa plant in Northampton have decided to begin a further four day strike in support of their dismissed shop stewards on beginning on Friday 17th April and Unite are in the process of holding a national ballot to escalate the dispute to a national strike across the numerous UK plants.

Andy Snoddy Head of UNI Global Graphical and Packaging called for the immediate reinstatement of the union representatives in both Colombia and the United Kingdom on Tony Smurfit to personally intervene to ensure local managements abide by Smurfit Kappa’s own Code of business conduct.
