Unions in Belgium and other European countries have been protesting against the actions of the call centre multinational company, SITEL, concerning their restructuring plans which include several hundred lay offs. These plans have been going ahead without a negotiated restructuring plan with the workers. UNI's Belgian affiliate, LBC-NVK was part of a protest action on 24 June. The union reports that the management's of Sitel is not allowed by the CEO of the US holding company to sign an agreement that the unions had made with the local management in Belgium.



On Thursday the 03 July a special meeting will take place on the Belgian Ministry of Employment.



The agreement that the unions want must exclude any staff lay offs and ensure that the management start discussions about better working condition for the call centre operators.
