On 28 November 2012, on the occasion of the Annual meeting, the members of the Securitas European Works Council joined forces with the UNI Europa Property Services sector and the trade unions of France, Belgium and Luxembourg in calling for better guarantees for the almost 1000 security guards that risk losing their jobs as a result of the European Parliament’s decision to internalise its security services.

They called upon the European Parliament for integrating security guards working already in its premises and appealed to the company to open a dialogue with trade unions and workers’ representatives to find a socially acceptable solution for those workers who will have to quit their contract with the European Parliament.



The company described the European Parliament’s decision as a shock for three reasons:

• Securitas have been asked to gradually withdraw from a contract signed only in April of this year
• The employment guarantees of the directive on the transfer of undertakings does not apply to the European Parliament
• The European Parliament will not be bound by the national legislation on training and licensing

Bart Adam, Securitas CFO committed to synchronise the withdrawal from the contract with the European Parliament with concrete measures to safeguard the jobs of Securitas guards by helping them to find another job or to offer a job on another Securitas contract.



“We want to avoid a social disaster” – he stated – “that’s not the Social Europe that we want”!



Istvan Csikasz, chair of the Securitas EWC and Goran Larsson from the Swedish Transport Workers Union expressed their solidarity with their colleagues in France, Belgium and Luxembourg and conveyed their message to the company and the European Parliament to listen to the concerns of the workers and to meet their legitimate demands.
