UNI Global Union was pleased to welcome a 23-strong delegation from Russia’s Communications Workers’ Union
UNI Global Union General Secretary, Philip Jennings received the delegation of 23 trade unionists from the Communications Workers’ Union drawn from across Russia. The CWU delegation was led by President Anatoly Nazeykin and Vice-Presidents Doyorin Dmitry and Makrushin Viacheslav.
The CWU represents both telecoms and post workers in Russia and has a strong presence within Russian legacy operator Rostelecom.
Jennings said, “Russia is an important market of the global telecoms and post and logistics industry. We were pleased to receive such a representative and high-level delegation of trade unionists from all over Russia to discuss issues relevant to telecoms and post and logistics workers. We strongly value their spirit of partnership and collaboration.”
During their visit to UNI Head Office in Nyon, Switzerland, UNI and CWU discussed a number of important issue. Including, Veon – a Dutch based multinational telecoms company. Russia is its biggest market with the Beeline brand, and UNI has been supporting organizing in this company in Bangladesh.
Outsourcing was also discussed – UNI updated the CWU delegation on Teleperformance and networks company Ericsson, which are both present in the Russian market.
Discussions on post were dominated by the growth of the private sector operators especially DHL and Geopost (which uses the DPD brand, which is the brand Geopost uses in Russia) – UNI has recently signed a global agreement that recognizes the organizing rights of Geopost workers around the world.
Both CWU President Nazeykin and UNI GS Philip Jennings concluded that both of their organisations would benefit from building even closer ties and working together on key multinational companies in their sectors both in Russia and other CIS states.
