9 October is World Post Day, the founding date of the Universal Postal Union (UPU). It is a date to create awareness of the importance of postal services for workers, citizens and industry. In Europe around 2.5 million persons work in the postal sector and postal services produce more than 1% of the GNP in the European Union.



The UPU calls its affiliates, postal providers in the whole world and responsible ministers of national governments to point out with special actions the importance of postal services. Every year, more than 150 countries celebrate World Post Day in a variety of ways.



With special pre-printed envelopes, Romanian Post offers customers a free delivery of mail amounting to1 leu the 9th October within the national postal network in Romania. Each customer receives the envelope with the printed message "9 October World Post Day" on it at the counter in his/her postal office. This should be seen as a reward to customers and a reminder to write letter from time to time. The free distribution of preprinted envelopes is part of the series of actions taken by the Romanian Post on the occasion of the World Post Day.



UNI Europa Post&Logistics wants to underline that secure quality postal services can only be provided by well-trained workers with quality jobs. Therefore it is important to think at the World Post Day especially on the million post men and women around the globe who deliver every day the letters, no matter which weather or where.
