After two years of negotiations, the contract settlement was reached between the New York Hotel Trades Council, UNITE HERE’s affiliate in New York City and Genting, the Malaysian based gaming giant.

It covers almost 1,400 workers at the "Racino" at Aquaduct racetrack in New York. It is the most exciting victory of the union as the contract will literally and instantly lift over a thousand workers and their families out of poverty. The average wages will nearly double right now and by 2016 will come close to three times what workers made prior to having a union.

Some of the benefits include: 
• Current employees will see an average 96% increase in their wages immediately;
• 3 personal days, up to 8 paid sick days, 9 holidays, and at least one week of vacation for all employees;
• Defined benefit pension for workers;
• Ironclad protections for immigrant workers against intimidation.

The Hotel & Motel Trades Council is New York's Gaming & Hospitality union, representing 32,000 workers throughout New York City, the Hudson Valley, the Capital District and Northern New Jersey.
